March is for Miracles

Personally, I had a tough start to the new year.

January was slow and February felt like we were sick with something new every week (which happens with a 1-year-old in daycare). On top of that, I had big things I was working through that were causing me a lot of stress and anxiety.

When February ended I felt overwhelmed, upset, and hopeless. A really bad combo of feelings that was getting me nowhere fast.

My negative thoughts, nerves, and fears were causing me to lose sleep, stress more over little things, get sick, and literally held me back from doing my best work. I was spiraling and I knew it.

I was afraid of what would happen if I continued down this negative path so I knew I had to turn this ship around quickly.

On March 1st, it was like I snapped into focus and spit out “this is my Magical Month of March where Miracles happen”. I love a good rhyme, but I also felt like I really needed a miracle. Little did I know that my mantra alone was going to be my miracle.

I NEEDED this change, so I repeated my mantra over and over again, out loud and in my head as I worked through the day. I let it stick in my conscious and subconscious, declaring to myself and the universe… we are turning this ship around NOW!

At first, I felt kind of childish. A 31-year-old talking about Magic and Miracles. But then I started having fun with it and jokingly said it out loud to my team and my family. Then, magic DID start to happen.

I started to feel light and happy throughout the day. My son slept through the night for the first time in months! It got warmer out so I could walk outside during lunch. Some hard conversations I was dreading were had and resolved, while other new conversations popped up that led to new exciting projects.

Miracles were happening all around me. Not necessarily the miracles I was expecting or asking for, but miracles all the same.

Which reminded me of 2 things:

  1. Having a positive mindset is crucial to feeling good and performing at my best. It allows me to see the potential and good things that are already all around me.
  2. A good mantra can get you there if you don’t have a positive mindset.

I wasn’t in a positive place, I knew I had to get there quickly, and I did it the only way I know how – change my mindset with a mantra.
